PK (probably the best movie I've watched so far)

Assalamualaikum,

Let me begin by thanking Fad Bin Zack and Aishah Ahmad for recommending this movie. Thank you so much.

I was always skeptical on Bollywood movies, especially the ones with a title like "PK". They'll be nothing but kitsch songs and emotion fest. PK didn't prove me wrong. However, the film dares to discuss the highest level of philosophy  as Dr. Normala Othman once said: religion.

What's so great about the movie you may ask. Well, I believe that film is a powerful medium that can be used to reach out to people. Discussing religion openly is often seen as tedious and might even be a taboo. The movie has successfully raise awareness on the concept of divinity i.e God and social issues in a necessary melodramatic way. All the tawdry stereotypical elements in Bollywood movies are needed so that the public are able to think about the matter in a laid-back way.

I have always wanting to spread dakwah in films but I fear that I will write something which is too heavy and too scholarly for a person to watch in pleasure. Whoever came out with the idea for this movie is a genius as the amount of issues discussed is huge and that is not even an exaggeration. Every single scene is important and needed to get through to the people. Regardless of the cinematography, acting and original score, the content of the movie is amazing and I am not ashamed to say that this would be the best film I've watched my entire life. Congratulations and thank you.

How much is Panipuri at Dharisha store on Chowpatty? Who stole constable Varmy's bicycle?

Assalamulaikum.

Jamal couldn't answer a simple question of "what is written underneath the national emblem of India?" where it is thought that every Indian should know.

Police Inspector 1 : My five-year old daughter can answer that question, but you couldn't.

Jamal: How much is Panipuri at Dharisha store on Chowpatty?

Police Inspector 1: What?

Jamal : Panipuri. One plate. How much?

Police Inspector 2: -10 Rupees.
Jamal: -Wrong

Jamal : 15 since Diwali

Jamal: Who stole Constable Varmy's bicycle?

Police Inspector 1: You know who that was?

Jamal: Everyone in Juhu knows that.

Jamal: Even five year olds

Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

When we don't know, we ask. Sometime when we ask a simple question, that from the perspective of the listener(s) is something that everyone should know, they would look down on us, feel annoyed and would probably make fun of us.

Well, do you know "how much is Panipuri at Dharisha store on Chowpatty?" "Do you know who stole constable Varmy's bicycle?"

I'm sorry if I don't know the answer to that simple question. At least I have the courage to ask and have the need to know.

Brothers (2009) -may contain spoilers-

IMDB rating : 7.4/10

A great movie about brotherhood, family and war. I think these kinds of quality movies about war just show how Americans hate war. Even though there are scenes that make people from Afghanistan look bad, but that's how it is; how American see them, how children are taught. The part in Afghanistan may seem ... bad; I think the intention is to show how cruel war can be. Tobey Macguire & Jake Gyllenhaal are great, and not to forget Natalie Portman who is more matured now having to act as a mother.

Tommy
"You're my brother. You're my family"
-----------------------------------------
Tommy
"What's going on Sam?"

Sam
"I'm drowning Tommy."
-----------------------------------------
Cops
"You're a war hero sir"

Sam
"I'm no fucking hero"
-----------------------------------------
Sam's letter;
"My Darling Grace,
If you're reading this, it means I didn't make it back.
Nothing is certain in this life.
The only thing I know for sure is that I love you and our girls.
That is the only thing I know."
-----------------------------------------
Sam
"I don't know who said 'only the dead have seen the end of war'
I have seen the end of war
The question is can I live again?"
-----------------------------------------

p/s: This is a remake of the movie Brødre (2004).

Muallaf

Assalamualaikum ...

The last post about the movie Muallaf is actually a contest, where I have to post something about the movie to get passes to watch the "Grand Premiere" of it in Malaysia (haha). Yes I did got the passes (4) ; Sapick, xLANx, Fader Mariano and me had a good time watching it (it's free).

The movie is good with lots of things to think about, especially about religion. It is rated certificate 18PL, for its contents being unsuitable for those who are not matured enough. I agree with the rate, but I do not understand why it should be banned.

There's no big issue to be controversial. The movie does not promote religious pluralism as some claims it to be. The masturbating scene was totally harmless (there may not be even such a scene if one would view it).

My friend said that maybe the reason why the movie is banned in Malaysia is because of the statement Rohani (Sharifah Amani) said about why alcohol are not banned in the country since it only brings bad things. Politic wise, the statement may offend the government.

Overall it's nice to buy the DVD as a collection. I like TaleNTime better.

p/s: tak sempat nak amik gambar dengan Sharifah Amani.

Muallaf (2008 or 2009?)

Bismillahirahmanirahim
In the name of God, the most Gracious and most Merciful

Yasmin Ahmad's Muallaf premieres in Malaysian screen in 2009

After one year of waiting, after hearing stuff about the movie, finally Muallaf will be premiering in Malaysian screens on 24th December 2009. The movie had already premiered in Singapore more than a year ago (27th November 2008). I have doubt whether this is actually a Malaysian or Singaporean made movie (actually the movie involves both MHZ Film from M'sia & The Picturehouse from S'pore)

I don't know how the movie manage to be screening in Malaysia after failing to pass the Malaysian censorship authorities. I heard that there is a masturbating scene in the movie (maybe some sex education from our dear Yasmin Ahmad). I hope that Yasmin's fifth movie will be as great as the others. And Sharifah Amani, don't fail me... huhu ....

p/s: the next post will be the review of the movie.

The Exorcist (1973) Never Trust The Devil (part 2)

Assalamualaikum wbt.

It has been a while since the last time I posted something. I am really sorry because I am still busy with CPS, classes, etc. But from time, I will try to find some to post something on this blog.

Here's another meaningful quotes from the movie The Exorcist (1973) :

Father Merrin and Father Damien are taking a rest from the exorcism;

Father Damien : Why this girl? It doesn't make sense.

Father Merrin : I think the point is to make us despair.

Father Merrin : To see oursleves as...

Father Merrin : ...animal and ugly.

Father Merrin : To reject the possibility that God could love us.

When I'm all settled down and have my own room I will indeed post more. Thank you . May Allah SWT bless you all. Amin.

The Exorcist (1973) Never Trust The Devil (part 1)

Here's some great quotes from the movie The Exorcist (1973). Indeed it's a very wonderful horror movie. To me it's the best horror film ever, not because of the scary images only but for the messages inside it and so is the cinematography.

Father Damien & Merrin getting ready for the exorcism.

Father Merrin : Especially important is the warning to avoid conversations with the demon.

Father Merrin : We may ask what is relevant, but anything beyond that is dangerous.

Father Merrin : He's a liar. The demon is a liar.

Father Merrin : He will lie to confuse us.

Father Merrin : But he will also mix lies with the truth...

Father Merrin : ...to attack us.

Father Merrin : The attack is psychological, Damien.

Father Merrin : And powerful.

Father Merrin : So don't listen.

Father Merrin : Remember that. Do not listen!

Father Damien : It might be helpful if I gave you some background...

Father Damien : ...on the different personalities Regan has manifested.

Father Damien : So far, I'd say there seem to be three.

Father Damien : She's convinced that-
Father Merrin : (cuts) There is only one.

Even though the film bases on Christianity for it's still Islamic in a way. (I think) ...

Angels & Demons (Book & Movie)

I read Angels & Demons and I've watch the movie. I just love both of it book because I would say that they are different. To those who just watch the movie version here's what I could find out what you miss :

This brand appears on the body of Vetra's father like the other killing.

This brand is what appears on the Camerlengo's chest. The Illuminati Diamond.

1. The first one to be killed was not Vetra's friend but her father Leonardo Vetra. Replaced by her friend Silvano.

2. Robert Langdon receives a phone call from his home and flew to CERN to look at the Leonardo Vetra's body and met with Vittoria Vetra there.

3. Langdon and Vetra flew to Vatican City by a shuttle-looking airplane that goes with the speed of Mach 11.

4. The director of CERN, Maximilian Kohler was removed. He was the one who got killed in the end accuse by the Camerlengo to brand him.

5. There are 2 reporters from BBC in the book that did not appear in the movie. We could see a lot of reporters from various TV stations around the glob but there is none from BBC which contrast with what is told on the book where it only focuses on BBC. These reporters communicated with the the so-called Illuminati leader.

6. The forth Preferiti is killed in the fountain but were saved and name Pope in the movie.

7. The Camerlengo and the previous Pope were actually blood related which what cause the Camerlengo to act immorally and commit suicide upon noticing it. This is the best part because a Pope is mistakenly seen as going against his celibacy but actually did a 'test-tube baby'. This is seriously challenging religion. Damn it.

8. Vetra was actually wearing shorts in Vatican which is actually prohibitted there for women there.

9. Langdon went together with Camerlengo in the last helicopter scene. Camerlengo survived with a parachute on a building and Langdon fall into water near an island.

10. In the movie when Langdon was asked by the Camerlengo about God, he answered that he was not ready about faith. In the novel Langdon answered that he ain't ready to believe in God because he cannot accept afford to accept that a God would punish those who did not follow His teaching.

There are lots of other thing which is different and removed and added in the movie. It won't be a waste if you read the book after you watch the movie.

Overall I sense that bot the movie and novel were really challenging religion as it plays with it a lot. Even though it does not involve Islam (there may be some things about Islam), the story challenges readers about the idea of "God" and divinity. Readers should take everything critically and be careful for anything that involves religion on philosophy.

Still the book is really good.

Looking forward for the next Robert Langdon adventure "The Lost Symbol" that will be released on September 15, 2009.

Edward Cullen ; Conspiracy Theory

"Consipracy is a big word, if it's a conspiracy then I had to prove it..."
Guus Hiddink (Chelsea's Manager 2009)

After reading and watching the movie "Twilight", something goes through my mind about the main male character "Edward Cullen". I post this just for fun and meant no harm for every fan of Edward Cullen n maybe "himself" (hahahaha).

Edward as the picture tells can eventually be a drug addict in favor of Heroin. Conspiracy theory hmm... Why did I say so is because we all know that Ed is addicted to this girl Bella. So, why did he use "Heroin" as a a metaphor for his addiction towards Bella? Why didn't he use other things to use as a symbol to the addiction.

Ed (ske2 je panggil Ed, kne marah aku nnt ni) also describes Bella as some kind of alcohol brand (only appear in the book) as the addiction. This might also suggest that Ed is also an alcoholic.

In the book it was also mentioned that the "vamps" don't breathe and that they do it for a hobby as to smell. This might be a great reason why uses Heroin instead of Cocaine because "Coke" is best sniffed (ahahha) where he don't like to sniff.

If it was me (I don't want to be a vampire, I just want to be Clint Eastwood), I'd say you're my favorite movie suggesting my love for movies haha (a cineaste).

Again I want to stress out that this post is just for fun and no offense in any way were meant. Hehehe.

Oh, one more thing is that Bella (Isabella Swan acted by Kristen Stwart) is cuter in the movie than I imagine she'd be. She looks bad in the Twilight poster but she looks good in the movie. (tak photogenic kot).

p/s: indeed a rubbish post.

TaleNTime

"Life is like a black man's left testicle, it's not right it's not fair" (tq Bawang n Kak Aishah)

"I don't want to be brilliant...
...That's not you to decide."

"Mohesh: (Showing his middle finger to his sister)"

This is a movie in my opinion 'what Malaysians need'. I really envy Yasmin Ahmad because she can make movies concerning the three races in Malaysia with wanting to unite them. I envy her because I can't think of a thing about racial integration because I don't have great experience with the Indians nor the Chinese. I'm not from a place where we were friends with other races. The only real experience with another race is with Mr. Muhammad Aw Yong and Stacy, and for that I do thank you for being nice. And not forgetting Suresh too and Wei Li. Sheena's not included cos she's half-breed hehe.

Looking forward to create my own movie...

Why Clint Eastwood is my hero.

Clint Eastwood is a name everyone who love movies would know. He's famous for his act as a tough and rough character in the movie Dirty Harry series and classic western epic (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly).

The first movie I remember watching that involves him is "Mystic River" (Sean Penn, Tim Robins, Laurence Fishbourne, Kevin Bacon) which make Sean Penn won his first Oscar for best actor and Tim Robbins for best supporting actor.

Then I've watch his other movies (dun remeember what). But what makes him a hero to me is the movie The Unforgiven 1992 (Clint Eastwood, Samuel L. Jackson, Gene Hackman) which he directed earning Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor (Gene Hackman).

What I love the most about this movie (The Unforgiven) is the sound track "Claudia's Theme" which he composed himself. He also composed many other sound track for his movie such as form the movie "Mystic River" and "Gran Torino".

He own his production company Malpaso Production form his movies and his own recording company Malpaso Records to record sound tracks of the movie, which he'd compose most of it himself.
Another cool fact about him is that he's once involved in politics that he became the mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.
All in all I love Clint Eastwood because he can be a director, screenwriter, actor, composer and even a mayor (ling-app students, analyze this sentence). He's won lots of awards including Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture (The Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby), Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, Golden Globe Awards for Cecil B. DeMille Award, Best Director (Bird, The Unforgiven,Million Dollar Baby, etc. In terms of success, he's my idol.
"I've always felt that every actor should direct a film at some point in their life, and every director should act" -Clint Eastwood

Yes Man & Ip Man

A very funny movie as expected from Jim Carrey yeah!!!! must see movie!

Worth buying the Original DVD copy.

This movie (Ip Man) which stars my hero Donnie Yen( huwarggh!!) is a great one! Can't stop screaming in the cinema maa, eventhough I'm on the 2nd front seat (sakit tengkuk maa). What makes it more interesting is that it's historical (worth a best picture nominee yeah) ahah

Woth buying the original Blue Ray copy (to have an extra feeling of the super fast punch) yeah!!
